Pre-procedure information

Please read through the following list of precaution s before the procedure.

Preparation

Clients should plan to avoid prolonged sun exposure for 30 days after their scheduled appointment. To perform cosmetic tattoo procedures on the lips, the skin of your lips must be hydrated and moisturized on the day of your appointment. We ask all clients to begin a daily lip regimen 5 days before they are scheduled to come in to prepare the lips.

5 Day Regiment

  • Vitamin A&D or Vaseline should be applied throughout the day.

  • After showing when lips are soft and supple, gently scrub your lips, especially the middle, and apply a layer of Vitamin A&D. You can make a homemade scrub by mixing brown sugar, honey, and olive oil in the same proportions (which is very important for the color retention)

Pain Preparation

Though the sensation of mic-pigmentation is minimal, all clients will respond to pain differently. To alleviate possible discomfort, a strong topical anesthetic will be applied before and during the procedure. Please do not take any blood thinners such as Ibuprofen and Aspirin 24 hours before. Tylenol can be taken 30 minutes before your treatment without any contraindications.

Cold Sores

For clients with ANY history of cold sores/fever blisters/herpes, please contact your physician and request a prescription for Zovirax or Valtrex. Taking preventative medication is recommended on the day of and the day after your appointment as a potential outbreak can occur as the skin’s natural reaction to the procedure. If you experience frequent outbreaks. All other questions or concerns regarding medications and outbreaks should be discussed with your healthcare physician.

Aftercare Instructions

Swelling is normal after the procedure. After you leave, we recommend that ice packs be applied for 10 to 15 minutes each hour for the first 4-8 hours following the procedure.

For the first two days

The treated area can only be cleaned using the provided antiseptic wipes. The treated areas should be cleaned 3 times a day, morning, afternoon, and evening. No water or other cleansers can be used for any reason. A very thin layer of Vitamin A&D ointment should be applied consistently throughout the day to the treatment area using a fresh Q-tip (do not use mineral oil or petroleum-based products such as Vaseline.) Applying too much ointment can lead to fading, so a thin layer goes a long way. This will keep the area moist and accelerate healing. Do not let the area dry out and crack, keep it moist at all times. Do not press or rub when applying ointment.

  • Apply an extra heavy coat of ointment to the treated area only before bathing, washing adjacent areas, and immediately upon rising in the morning. When brushing your teeth for the first five days, use a minimal amount of toothpaste. Toothpaste and mouthwash are considered “soap” and will remove the lip color.

Clients should avoid all prolonged outdoor sun exposure for the first 30 days. Any prolonged sun exposure will lead to a premature loss of color to can cause a change in the color of the fresh pigment.

For the first 7 days

  • Do not touch, bite, lick, pick, peel, tamper, scratch, rub, injure, or remove the peeling in any way; if you do, you will experience a loss of color.

  • Do not let any water, lotion, soap, or makeup touch your lips.

  • Use a straw when you drink liquids.

  • Avoid biting into the foods that might cause friction to the lips: no spicy or super-hot food and drink.

  • No foreign body fluids.

  • No physical activity that causes extreme sweating.

  • Do not use any lipstick or cosmetics on or near the treated area.

For the first 14 days

  • No hot sauce, swimming pool, hot bath/shower, sun tanning salons, Vaseline, Neosporin, or any petroleum-based products, no massage, facials, waxing, threading, laser, or skin treatments.

  • Do not expose the area to dirty or unsanitary conditions. Try to avoid being in dusty places.
